What happened to the two very likely greatest fighters of their time? They put up a brilliant fight, and people don't even notice! They just think two idiots fought. Second, it ended in a suitable tragedy to the whole story. It was short, yes, only a few moves, but should it really break with the previous style? The blood revenge duel between Fujiki and Seigen was exeptional for this kind of scenario already by lasting so long, would it be good showing this another time? Obviously, it's a joy to watch fights in a manga of such quality like Shigurui, but it's not necessary to show fights unrelated to the plot.įirst, it was a great fight once more. I don't think the rest of the tournment was that important either. They just appear and tell a short story of a different story line, but that doesn't mean that it has to be followed all the way. It made perfect sense to me, didn't seem too short nor too long and was really suitable imo.Ībout the frog guy: I think he was just a side appearance, and I don't think these side stories were ment to necessarily have an end. Years ago I finally found this version onand it's so much better than the Anime.Actually I took a long break after long time finding no translation (Wish I could find time to learn japanese one day ) and was kind of sceptical after catching up with it over two months after having read the stuff before. So I searched everywhere for an English translation of this manga after seeing the Anime but was unable to find anything. This is my first torrent so I hope everything goes well.

The story revolves around the first match between the one-armed swordsman Fujiki Gennosuke and the blind samurai Irako Seigen and deals with the circumstances that led the two to participate in Tokugawa's tournament. The daimyō staged a tournament where the participants fought with real steel Japanese swords rather than bokken ("wooden sword"), against his vassals' strong objection. The story begins in 1629 Shizuoka during Tokugawa Tadanaga's rule. Shigurui (Japanese: シグルイ, "Death Frenzy") is a Japanese manga series by Takayuki Yamaguchi, based on the first chapter of the novel Suruga-jō Gozen Jiai by Norio Nanjō.
